Pam and I have been fortunate to be able to operate from many countries over the past years,(some of which are listed above) and meet many, many hams from different countries. Our biggest thrill, was to meet Fr. Moran, 9N1MM, in Nepal and operate from his station just weeks before he passed away.We visited with Fr. Moran twice, the second time to re-build his Cushcraft A3 that had been blown down just days before. Pam and I had the thrill of making contacts at that time to check out the antenna. We were scheduled to go to the school and visit with Fr. Moran one more time before leaving Nepal, but we were telephoned by Brother Matthew and told that Fr. Moran was too ill to receive guests. Shortly after our last visit with Fr. Moran, we flew from Nepal to Thailand, where we were greeted by Ray, HS0/G3NOM at the Club Station, HS0AC at the Science Museum in Bangkok. It was at this time that we asked Ray if he had heard anything about Fr. Moran, and he informed us that he had passed away days before in India. How lucky we were to have been in Nepal at the right time to meet Fr. Moran. We would never get the chance to do so again. I joined RAST(lifetime membership), and was then able to operate HS0AC. We have since returned to Thailand, and again, Ray was very gracious and I was again able to operate from HS0AC at the Science Museum. We met a lot of nice people at the RAST meetings that we were able to attend in Bangkok, including Thida, HS1ASC, who works for the ham publication " 100 Watts" in Bangkok, and showed us around the offices of "100 Watts". We thank Ray and Thida for taking the time out of their busy schedules to spend time with us. We also met many hams in both Australia and New Zealand where we also operated from. Some of which we still keep in touch with after 14 plus years. Ham Radio has been a big part of our lives, in fact, it is through Ham Radio that Pam and I first met. Hopefully in the future we will have the opportunity to again travel and meet and make friends with many more hams world wide.
Our daughter, Phoebe, got her Technician license at the Dayton Hamvention, Dayton ,Ohio on May 19, 2007. She was only 10 years old at the time. Her Call is KD8GIE. She worked the CQ WW SSB on Oct. 27, 2007 and managed to work 10 new countries.
As we were invited to visit with many hams in many countries, we also invite any visiting hams to come visit us here in Michigan. We have plenty of room and would be glad to have anyone visit with us.
